This has really opened the opportunity for more and more professional production through high-end CG graphics, real-time playout, and source sharing…all over a local network. Now with NDI, each product has the ability to connect with most live video systems on the market. Developers would need to go out of their way, sign exclusivity agreements and only work on certain platforms. #VMIX EXTERNAL 2 SOFTWARE#Most systems for live video production in the past, both software and hardware, were fairly closed ecosystems. With the development of NDI you could see that it had been created to not only make IP video more accessible but to help bring more live video elements together. #VMIX EXTERNAL 2 FULL#We were ALL IN with NDI and wanted full integration so we made it possible to both send and receive video sources including individual cameras! As we begun developing vMix for use with NDI I can remember having a moment thinking…hey this could actually work! It’s great quality, low latency video that can be delivered over the local network without any hassles! When NDI officially launched in 2015 we were excited to be apart of a new live video revolution. At first I remember being a little skeptical as my only contact with IP video was with cheap IP cameras that were unreliable and had extreme latency. Being able to create live video productions using video sources on the local network sounded almost too good to be true. #VMIX EXTERNAL 2 UPGRADE#Hey! I think we could just about put together an entirely NDI show! Let’s send some emails and see if we can do it!Īfter some correspondence we were able to secure the NewTek™ Spark Connect, NewTek PTZ1 camera, and the PTZOptics NDI|HX upgrade! Along with our existing BirdDog Studio, we we able to use 4 NDI sources in our production! One major upgrade to our studio that we did need was a PoE+ switch to run all of our new PoE NDI devices! We bought a Ubiquiti UniFi Switch 24-īack in 2014 when we first heard about NDI, we were pretty excited about the possibilities. I was sitting in the office in December and thought… People have seen NDI as a cool way to transfer some titles or video but cameras and converters show people its full potential! NDI hardware lessens the equipment footprint of a production and makes each element of a production accessible to everyone on the same network, which is great for small and large productions alike. Having hardware products really cements the functionality of the standard in a working studio environment. For example if the audio is earlier than the video by 200ms, type in 200 here.In our last post we discussed how far NDI had come and how we now have access hardware based NDI solutions! We were super eager to get access to NDI based hardware so that we could start implementing it into our vMix HQ studio. This sets a delay on the audio input in milliseconds. If this option is not visible, then the audio will automatically be included. Some output devices require selecting an Audio Device as well which can be selected here. Select the Port to use on the output device, for example HDMI or SDI. For example if using the Composite/S-Video output this will usually be 720x576 for PAL and 720x480 for NTSC. This must be set to the output format when using the External Renderer. When using the External Renderer this should be set to the frame rate required by the device's output.įor vMix Video / Streaming, this should be set to the Master Frame Rate set under the Display tab for optimal performance. Select the Frame Rate for the External Output. This vMix Video device is called vMix Video External 2 in 3rd party applications. #VMIX EXTERNAL 2 PRO#In vMix 4K and Pro a second independent output can be configured for both vMix Video and External Renderer. See External Output for more information. Use Display Settings: When ticked this option will match the Frame Rate and Output Size settings under the Display tab at all times. Some examples of hardware that support output including most AJA, Blackmagic Design and BlueFish devices. Select this option to send video and audio out to compatible output devices. Use Streaming Settings: When ticked this option will match the streaming quality settings and should remain ticked for the best results when streaming. VMix Video is a device that appears in 3rd party applications such as Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder and Skype and is also used for the built in Streaming feature. Select this option to output to the vMix Video device when External Output is running.
